This is how I'd suggest approaching it. Cron is simply a way to
schedule running /something/, like a script that sends an email.

That sounds like a bad way to approach it, but I'm unclear about the
details. Is there an incoming email that triggers this process? Is
human intervention needed, or could the whole process conceivably be automated?
