[thelist] messy IP address/~account and mobile app question

Commonly when you create a new website you can work on it in a
semi-nonlive locale as IP address/~account, say:

177.99.88.000/~account

Then at golive you update the nameservers and boolah you now access it
as: www.mydomain.com. This is fine and dandy. In parallel a different
developer is building an iPhone app to sister the website and when
creating/submitting that iPhone app rather than incorporating the live
domain, www.mydomain.com, they submitted or built in whatever they do.
This of course is wrong and may eventually lead to some functionality
breaking unexpectedly.

The question, can you set up redirection via .htaccess, etc to point
177.99.88.000/~account to www.mydomain.com or http://mydomain.com and
circumvent the problem?
