[thelist] Validation errors == optimization?

When I queried about these validation errors:

I love people who think they are smarter than the W3.
I'd refuse to pay for the work if it was contracted to validate or
otherwise leave them with a bad rep, because it's a hack job and a lie,
at best.
That will will break miserably on a ton of mobile browsers and things
that aren't IE.
