[thelist] Opinion: good/better/best fileserver systems?

We're having issues with our current mac-based and plugged in raid systems. It's a nuisance to all involved, and we're looking into scrapping the whole system and starting afresh.

What we need is this:

1) A system that the designers can work off of live. It's their habit, I'll no longer fight it.

2) Real time backups.

3) The ability to pull discs at the end of the night and take them home.

4) Compatibility with Mac systems

5) Serious, boring oh-yeah-I-forgot-all-about-it reliability

It should be able to handle a 40 person team.

I've heard good things about Drobo. What do you know first hand that works well?

Thanks
