I have to agree with you Hassan

Databases server has those functions. I am just not used to it.

The only reason I would not use it is for:

1. When a ORM builds queries and hydrates data collections in a OOP fashion such as with Doctrine 
2. When u have to compare dates together... its a hell to do string comparsion instead to get back to it. Once might get back to UNIX epoch for such anyway

Its up to you and the structure you decide to build on.

Hassan's suggestion is the shortest if you have no facilities and just need to output the data
