[thelist] SEO optimization

"Penguin" refers to one of Google's iterations of their link analysis schema. I think the previous one was "Panda."

Hi Bob,
This is very helpful.
The Bed and Breakfast has a blog, which they really use, but the rest of the pages are pretty stagnant except that the prices are changed seasonally.
Does all content need to be changed from time to time?
And what is penguin? Is this a website I need to look at? I searched for it, but didn't come up with it.
Thanks so much!
Nan

Google places can easily take 8 weeks or so once submitted and confirmed. I spoke with someone, via Adwords, who knew a little about places as well about inconsistency in updates with an established site. Although the general profile, categories, would update quickly, images can take a very long time. And videos were not updating at all - they responded that the video implementation was being redone, stay tuned (2 months ago).

If your sites have been stagnant for a long time, that can easily be the problem unless of course you've gotten labeled by Penguin as an offender for some reason - for something that seemed smart 3 years ago but now considered spammy. One of the problems with stagnancy is that you lose tread as new businesses pop up who aren't stagnant or simply didn't exist while you were lazily minding the store.

With Places, also if there is inconsistency with other similar local directores with NAP (name, address, phone) this can toss another wrench into the mix.
