I haven't totally given up on Americans but I get closer every day...
The 20's were different from now in that only the upper class lived to
excess, there really wasn't a middle class like there is now and the working
class worked hard to make ends meet.
<rant>
There are many people now whose job is to collect welfare, it didn't exist
then. Too many people now are "victims" of some sort or another. There have
been warnings on cigarettes for nearly 40 years that say they are bad for
you, yet pinheads still pick the nasty things up and stick them in their
mouths, fire them up and then want to sue when they get cancer. The US now
is more like the last days of Rome... The unquestioned world power that
essentially collapsed from within. Yes, it was the barbarian hordes that
actually did the pillaging, but it was a lack of coherent defenses due to
infighting and corruption that doomed them. We elect morons to office and
then complain when they do stupid things. Its damn near impossible for a
third party to get on the ballot nationally, so we get stuck with the same
putrid choices year after year. Once in the while a good person might come
along, but who except for a masochist wants to run for office in an age of
"gossip journalism"?? Even the "mainstream" news isn't what it should be,
passing along facts and events with some opinions without sensationalism.
Why? Because the idiots need to be entertained 24/7 and everything needs to
be a sound bite because they have the attention span of a gnat. This society
has its priorities so out of whack that its pathetic... Teachers, who are
truly some of the most valuable members of a society are paid a pittance
compared to their responsibility, then you hear some loser pro athlete
complain that he's not getting any respect cause "the man" only wants to pay
him $7.5 million instead of the $8 he "deserves"...
</rant>

Thanks,

Funny thing about that anti-tip, is that I almost highlighted the stuff and
hit send instead of delete as well :-)
