Ensuring Safety in the Skies

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/editorials/la-091301edfaa.story

correction:

The aforementioned incident, with the guy barging through the cockpit
door and grabbing for the controls; that was Alaska Air, Horizon's
sister airline. It was not a puddle-jumper, it was a larger plane.

That was about a year ago.

>A 250-pound, 6-foot-2-inch incoherent passenger recently broke into
>the cockpit of an Alaska Airlines jet, attacked the two-member
>cockpit crew, and lunged for the controls, screaming, "I'm going to
>kill you!" He frantically grabbed at the thrust levers and the
>engine controls before some passengers, responding to the captain's
>frantic PA-transmitted pleas for some critically needed assistance,
>brought the intruder under control. The first officer required eight
>stitches in his right hand after the intrusion. This one could have
>been much worse.
