Tune your TV to Nick at Nite and it will all go away.
>Can I use that the next time I need some really smelly flame bait?
I don't think you need me to write your flame bait for you.
>Oh, and don't you WORK for that "educational system?"
I work for a private college.
I do believe that a certain level of critical thinking is encouraged
in college, though much depends on individual professors.
Fortunately, most colleges and universities at least attempt to value
scholarship over towing the mass-mind line.
I do NOT believe that much critical thinking is required, encouraged,
or appreciated in public schools: elementary or high schools.
Do you think differently?
How many of your teachers gave you something other than the standard
issue stuff about Vietnam? How many taught about our relationship
with Indonesia? Guatemala? How many taught about Cuban history?
African history?
Or did they even mention these places in any way other than as the
producer of useful products for us and/or as the source quaint
cultural customs?
I grew up in Eureka, went to elementary and high school in Eureka.
Living in one of the most heavily Native American areas of
California, I learned nothing about the tribes of the students who
sat next to me, and nothing about some very significant massacres
(usually very carefully coordinated) that had taken place in Eureka
itself, in neighboring towns, and in outlying rural areas.
The mayor of Eureka lives on an old village & ceremonial site that
was also the site of the most notorious massacres of peaceful Indians.
Our local history and resulting economy was very much shaped by the
local Indian "wars", and we learned nothing of it.
What is taught and what is not...
that is a subtle but effective way of mind control.
