That's only the case if the Mac in question has been seriously screwed
or if the filetype is way out (like opening text files with Photoshop)

It's broken.

Should only happen if they're too big.

Macs are supposed to do that. If it doesn't, it's a bug with the app, not
intended behaviour of the OS.
