Honestly, though, what exactly about the above, and the consequences 
of the above:
a) surprises anyone?
b) is really so different from the relationship between powerful 
nation/states vs poor nation/states at any time since nations 
actually existed?

Nasty, brutal, and short, IMHO, even after the state of nature was 
left by people(s).

Is there an alternative?
