Thanks for the advice, I was able to fix the problem.

I remembered that I had made a boot floppy for Red Hat and that allowed
me to get root access to my machine. Once there, I realized that I had
installed the drivers wrong. I tried to install new drivers instead of
updating them. Once I updated them the system ran fine.
