Not my point at all. I am one (or at least I was until
recently). It's just that I've never met a journalist who
had a BA in Journalism - in fact, it'd be seen as a real
disadvantage since the 'competition' have demonstrated
an ability to be journalists _and_ do something else.
That, and it wasn't possible to do such a degree here until
one of the newer colleges started only about 4 years ago.
Post-grad 1-year courses are much more common. Mostly
they teach you how to (1) do shorthand and (2) not find
yourself in contempt of court. I'm not having a pop at
the courses as such, just the idea that it's wise to
allow the students to think they've got a chance in hell
of actually becoming a journalist at then end.
Of course, the 'merkin courses are better-regarded.
