Hi, Madhu,

I've just been to a huge geek heaven store (Fry's) and checked out a ton of
computers and monitors this past week and these are the prices and
resolutions that I saw.

------------------------------------
Computer Packages:
------------------------------------

Typical middle-of-the-road computer packages have 17" monitors and set at
1024x768 resolution. Typical middle-of-the-road computer packages with
flatscreen monitors are 15" and also set at 1024x768 resolution.

The low end computer packages have 15" regular monitors, no flatscreens
(didn't check their resolutions, though).

High end computer packages have 17" monitors set at 1024x768 (regular
monitors and flatscreen), and the highest end had 19" monitors (regular
monitors and flatscreen).

------------------------------------
Monitors:
------------------------------------

Flatscreen monitors
I picked up a 15" flatscreen monitor on sale for $299, and those prices
don't seem to be coming down much. If you want 17" you jump up to at least
$499-$799+ and 19" is $799-$1199+. (Now you see why I stuck to the 15" and
it's for my music studio anyway, not for my graphics work.)

Regular monitors
Prices are also holding steady. Didn't see any price drops at all unless
there's a sale, and even those are mostly $50 rebate deals. Good 17"
monitors are still $300-$1,000, and 19" monitors jump to $600-$1,200. There
are also lesser quality larger monitors for a couple hundred dollars.

If you're into better graphics quality, you're probably looking at at least
$500+ for a good 17" regular monitor.
-------------------------------------

I suspect with some diligent hunting online you could get some better
prices, but the above info is generally the price range and setups that I
also see in computer magazines and ads.

HTH!

Warmly,
Shirley
