Geetars (was: RE: [thechat] Big stupid plea... Kenya)

My brother the unprintable had a Gretsch Tennessee Rose Chet Atkins Special
(on which I learned more than one Neil Young song) which he sold, with a
tube-type amp and hardshell felt-lined case, for $300. Not to me, by the
way. What would I want with a beautiful hollow-body electric guitar that
practically played itself?

Of course, he was just following the family precedent. My dad hocked his
late 40s Gibson archtop (you know, the one he courted my mother with?) for
fifty bucks to buy a Japanese twelve-string. I woulda given him fifty one
for it. Honest, I would have.

So let that be a lesson to ya: if you're gonna *give* away classic,
irreplaceable musical instruments, ask your loved ones first and save us all
a lot of anguish.
