BAD BAD MIRIAM!

About 10 years ago my sister "lost" her passport - could not be found
despite ripping apart my sister's room and the whole house. We were all
living in Virginia at the time - and my sister and mother drove 100
miles to see me, who was another 100 miles from D.C (these were the
Charlottesville/Respiratory Therapy days). We went directly to the state
department and applied in the morning, and had new passport in hand
about 5 hours later.

This is precisely the route I would take. Get your ass to the state
department NOW, no holds barred. I don't think you have any choice. Get
all your paperwork in a row, have every possible piece of supporting
documentation, bring your itinerary and tickets, and plead for mercy
like hell.

You may, unfortunately, be screwed. But I hope you're not.

(The sidebar is that at the time I was working 7p-7am night shift, and
had to work the day before, and after - I was dead tired, but my Mom
wasn't confident she could get around D.C., so I was deputized).

Now, the punchline is that she found her passport when we got back, it
was hidden in the bottom of one of her purses. Heh.
