how about the us postal service, which is still government run, i understand
(as opposed to canada's, which is "privatized" [snicker])

us postal service sponsors lance armstrong to 4th tour de france win

Actually it is a quasi-government agency, not really private, but regulated
as a legal monopoly. They get to raise their rates about whenever they want
and it gets rubberstamped by some Congressional committee. They keep crying
that they're losing money... Well, then maybe they shouldn't be shelling out
millions of $$ for Lance and his buddies to pedal around Europe. Maybe they
shouldn't have a luxury box at the Atlanta arena (and who knows how many
others around the country?) and I know for a fact that their IT department
has massive staff redundancy and far too much specialization. Getting more
generalists would slash that payroll by a million or so a year...
