Oh yeah. Tell me about it. I'm a show-off, so when guests drop in is when
I'm likely to do all the histrionics like tossing veggies high in the air
from my wok, mincing garlic without looking at it, and all that stuff.

And if someone who loves food (like a couple of cousins of mine) are
around, I'll keep asking them to taste sauces, marinades, and all kinds of
other stuff in the process. It builds up an appetite, and raises
expectations of the food, which is most of the work anyway.

The reward is watching their faces light up when they taste your food. (Of
course, asking them about how it tastes is a bad idea, because then they're
obliged to say it's good. Instead, wait for them to comment.)

Hey Bob, if you ever drop into India, you know where to look me up...

I seriously envy your current job, man. I'm trying to convince a local
Oriental restaurant chain to start a monthly food newsletter to educate
patrons about authentic Chinese and Thai cuisine, and of course, I'll help
create and edit it. ;)
