But Kath, the oil is /precisely/ why there is so much Amerikan presence in
the Middle East.

   Oil = gasoline = happy SUV owners in Amerika = status quo

   No oil =  rioting in the streets, lynching of politicians

You can argue cultural imperialism all you wish.  Amerikan foreign policy is
/always/ all about the oil.  Afghanistan was invaded to secure that
pipeline.  No two ways about it.  The WTC was just a very convenient excuse.
