Not at all - problem there is twofold:

1)  Iraq's been out of the news for a fortnight, so
    nobody in the US was thinking about it yesterdat

2)  Overall election results in the US bear no
    resemblance whatsoever to the number of votes cast
    for parties.  It's the same as the UK in that
    regard - though it only became very apparent
    recently.

In response to 2) I'm leaving the UK in a few months.
