i'm going to *horribly* oversimplify this, and with it comes a good
deal of inaccuracy, but it's a quick way to think about the
ideological differences...

republicans want government to regulate morality and, hence, the
citizenry (mostly through christian morals), but want government
out of the way of business...

democrats want government to regulate business, but want
government out of of the citizenry...

libertarians want government out of both, except to act as a body
to provide military protection from the outside and act
internationally on behalf of its citizenry... states' rights are a major
factor here...

everyone else is also nuts...
