Ooooo!  My turn!

I'm not sure what the differences started out as when the parties
were formed. (We'll need a History or PoliSci wizard for that.)

Today the differences have evolved into, essentially, a difference
between 'socialists' and 'capitalists':

The Democrats want to increase my taxes and spend the money on
kickbacks to their friends and relatives for new social reform
measures that won't work.

The Republicans want to increase my taxes and spend the money on
kickbacks to their friends and relatives for new military defense
systems that won't work.
