On the subject of campfires and marshmallows and insects...
In western kenya (especially in the region around lake victoria)
roasted/fried flying ants are a delicacy.
During the rainy season,in the evenings...you can find people
waiting with hurricane lanterns around a a large bowl -- and the
ants just come flying in. The guy then gathers up a ladle full of
ants and deep fries them.
Its crunchy and pretty tasty (actually much better than roast
peanuts) except for the occasional wing....
