[thechat] Telewest cable engineer's troubleshooting technique

Dear all

I recently sold a laptop to a friend of mine. Yesterday an engineer from
Telewest came round to his house to install cable internet access. I
received a couple of calls from him, as he couldn't get a connection and
believed the problem to lie with the laptop. As I've never had any
problems with any aspect of this particular machine, I was of very
little help. The engineer refused to try connecting using another laptop
(which was available) on the grounds that "he was absolutely sure it
would work". He managed to obtain connectivity a couple of times on the
original laptop, although he couldn't maintain it. After 6 hours he
left, telling my friend that a driver (not specifying which one) was
only half installed, so until it was "fully" installed he would only be
able to connect half the time. Does this mean that if I only half
install Windows I can only use the machine on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays?

Regards

Chris Marsh
