   In Northern Ireland, there's not much comparison, to be perfectly 
honest. Everybody knows that a referendum in Northern Ireland would result 
in exactly the same situation as there currently is - the area under UK 
rule, and a few headcases trying to blow each other up. The conflict in 
Israel/Palestine is between two countries. The conflict in NI is between 
two groups of fanatics who are only a tiny fraction of the population.
