There are 40,000 people here in Lancaster County PA who do *much* 
better than that. 

Some of them burn a little kerosene, maybe 2-3 gallons a year, to 
keep warm in the winter. Most of them, though, just bundle up well, 
and use no petrol at all - just some oats and hay. 

I wonder, if you add the environmental impact of *manufacturing* to 
the environmental impact of *operating* cars, how much advantage 
the Prius would have. Manufacturing batteries is traditionally not a low-
pollution industry.
