Hi Folks,

Okay. It took longer than it should have. And it did involve a pair of pliers, a crushed dwarf, and waaaaay too many screwdrivers. But I have managed (yes, shocking I know) to install Ubuntu Studio on an old laptop that had been sitting, unused, in a locked filing cabinet, in a disused lavatory, behind a 'Beware of the Leopard' sign.

The initial plan was to take it home and try to use that "wine" thingy to play some guitar instructional discs I bought some time back. (Some folks at home object to my running those buggers on 'their' laptop!) However, (a) I can't even find 'wine' on this thing, and (b) I had even fewer 'leftover' parts disassembling and reassembling this laptop than *anyone* would have anticipated so I'm feeling a bit cocky and wondering how little additional hardware I need to buy to plug a guitar and/or a mic into this thing?

Beyond that, well, there are, like, 40 music software packages on this thing. What should I learn first? Where do I start?

Trouble brewing? Ah well, I'll take another lump please.
RonL.
