Well, young woman, I remember... damn, senior moment again...

Oh yeah, I remember sitting in a meeting with management, who
could not understand why I wanted an ethernet card in each computer.
They really gagged when I told them that everyone in the group
should have email. "What the hell would anyone do with email???"
was the response (while laughing.) Well, I guess we know.

I finally got my way not due to the obvious (to me) advantages
of this medium, but management's kids started to college and they
wanted to know how to email. (Obviously, their phone bill started
to add up.) A light went off and they had the brilliant idea to
make email standard which obviously needed the ethernet
connections. Teaching them to use email on an old VAX system was
even more challenging. Most of them typed with one finger.
Later, I set up a gopher and started uploading some content to
it. The web was a challenge for them at first since there wasn't
a lot of content and it threatened a number of positions who had
a firm grip on information. The lower level folks seemed to get
it much faster than the upper level folks since it made their
lives easier.

Those were simpler times, but today is simpler than it will be
decades from now.
