there sure were barriers to entry then?  we couldn't just subscribe
ourselves, we had to ask to be involved.  i also recall doing a headcount
and trying to match up names with subscribed email addresses because we
thought for a bit that we had an intruder in our midst.

so, to say that there was no barrier to entry is false -- though it was
minor.  about the only barrier was "can't work for webmonkey".
