Ah, I see now why you've been opposing any kind of process -
you misunderstood the purpose and merely thought that it was
lazy admins. Which couldn't be further from the truth.

It was brought about because some admins with experience
in process-free organisations started suggesting that best practise
was that development and other ways of working were better organised
with a process for doing it in place.

Otherwise you get changes in the way people are expected to do
stuff imposed on those people, like the way mail is answered.

And you get kickback later down the line if there's a mismatch between
the result and people's expectations of the result - clear process
for matching the expectation and the result (and yes, both will probably
have to move to one degree or another) will prevent developers getting
a kicking. That way you can look back and say "Hey, we decided on
apples, so stop complaining that we really needed pears"
