[Theforum] Appropriate? (fwd)

I'm not real happy with this ... and perhaps I'm being a *itch .. but I have
a problem with that page sample he sent. It's very much self serving. i.e.
there are a lot of products he has on there.

The special offer, isn't a special .. its the same as on the other pages.
(The bundle package that is).

Another organization I belonged too had percentage discounts offerred to its
members. You choose what you want to buy, and you get a discount on your
total order. It was up to me to go to that site, and decide if I wanted to
buy anything at all.

I would be far happier if there was an evolt page for this particular item
he'd like to offer at a reduced fee. A page that featured only this item ..
what price evolt members would pay, etc. And, one link to the home page of
this company.

However, it is nice that this guy asked you .. but I really hope he doesn't
want you (i.e. personally or evolt.org as a whole) to push it for him. IOW,
he sends the email to thelist saying he's offering a discount to evolt
members, and for members to contact him. (what makes one an evolt member
tho? ;)

I'd also agree that it would be best if he didn't mention matt's script. He
can use that in his own marketing material .. but I don't want to get into a
situation where it comes across as you get what you pay for. Far too many
evolt.org members support open source development. And, despite the flaws
with Matt's script, there are LOTS of other ones out there that can be had
for free.

One final thought on this ..

I'm not against having a member-to-member discount program/benefit, whatever
.. but we need to discuss this more before evolt decides it wants to support
such and adventure. And, it wouldn't be fair to Gordon not to proceed in a
timely manner with his offer.

My two cents,

Mich

| Daniel,
|
| Hope I'm not intruding.
|
| In light of the recent discussion on the evolt list about Matt Wright's
| formmail.pl and its spam relay implications (and generally poor
performance,
| not to mention poor security) I was wondering how appropriate it would be
to
| offer evolters a discount on my form processing software.
|
| I was thinking of a near 50% discount for the group.
|
| Please let me know, as I wish to not only help our my own cause, but to
| somehow give back to a community that has provided so much.
|
| You can see how the discount would work via:
