I understand that people are receiving this info already. In fact, I look
forward to the updates, since I don't always have the time to see what's new
on the site.

My issue is with the method used to disseminate this information.
Subscribing a person to an email list without his/her consent is not only
rude, it is also illegal in some parts of the world.

I think that a better method would be to send an email to all current
theList subscribers asking them to opt in to the new list.  Also, in the
email footers for all of the lists, maybe include subscription links as well
as the unsubscribe info.
