also via scripting news -- hey, i was there, i couldn't help noticing, i
don't normally read it -- this link to a story in slashdot, another site i
never bother going to...   apparently slashdot is going to have large ads,
and will offer an ad-free subscription service

talk about selling out

of course, they get a third of a million readers per day (one might say an
ongoing slashdot effect, i suppose), so their bandwidth costs must be
horrendous
