ask him for a .bak file... that should retain everything we need and 
still hold the special chars...

from there, we can each try a restore into our system...

going through access will be bad... and running it into XML will 
require development time...

but the .bak file should work out well enough... i believe i still 
have a SQL7 box laying in the server room...

let's not call a moratorium until we know the process we need to go 
through... which means we'll need him to get us a .bak twice -- once 
to play with, and once after the process is nailed...

this way we can spend forever developing the site based on the 
schema, call a moratorium of X hours, get the .bak, and restore using 
our tried-and-true method...

so, no moratorium yet...
