Might not be necessary.

If it's not impacting performance it's probably not worth fooling with.

Might be better to add an 'active user' field (and we probably already have something like that) if we want to generate a list or count of current folks.  Although a count on non-bounce email out might be a more accurate indication of current 'usage' than actual membership.  Just sayin'
