|
| yes, they will. i've talked of removing this restriction in the past and
| might end up doing just that. it makes me feel dirty to do that though
| because it gives the user a false sense of categorization of the article
if
| they visit with the old link which tells them it's in the "foo" category
| when it's actually in the "bar" category. they click the "foo" category
| link when they're done reading to find more articles like it and are
| confused when they can't find any like it. then, they go to the "bar"
| category and see the article listed there. it makes it look as though we
| had the category defined improperly on the copy they were reading. they
| can't expect that the category isn't really tied to the actual category
the
| article is in, but instead is tied to the category_id in the url.

Thanks for the clarification. This is what I thought, but I wanted to
double check. What are our options then? (not just asking you) Most of
the articles that Issac and Martin mentioned wanting to move to the new
category are "older", not too active articles. However, Martin's CMS
article has been quite active.

Is there a server-side redirect solution that we can do? Would we even want
to do that?

Does there need to be a stead-fast "rule" that articles don't move
categories (except for very obvious mistakes)?

I don't want to rain on Issac's parade here .. but at the same time, I'd
prefer if we didn't move articles as they will result in an "article not
found" error message.

| seems like we need to build up the text on the article not found page eh?

What do you think of just adding the search page to the bottom? Would that
be helpful? Too much work? Or did you have something else in mind? I
could write up a general FAQ/category description article if that's
necessary.

Thanks,

Michele
