Yes, that's one of the items on the not-supported-yet list here:
  http://www.opera.com/docs/specs/

You can't get Opera to create a scrollbar in the a DIV (except by
putting a IFRAME in it of course).

If you define 'overflow: scroll;', Opera treats this like 'overflow:
hidden;'. 'overflow: auto;' is treated as 'overflow: visible;'

This one seems to work
http://html.conclase.net/pruebas/hacko5.html
I'd advise to use 'media="screen, projection"' or 'media="all"'
though, as 'screen' style sheets are not applied in Full screen
mode
in Opera.

It looks like there is something wrong with the comments in this
article:

http://evolt.org/article/Embed_HTML_in_XML_and_Retrieve_it_with_XSL/17/27855/index.html?cfid=646784&cftoken=45060708#comments

In Linux/Mozilla, only 2 of the comments appear and there's a "Preview
Comment" button at the end of the page.

In Linux/NN and Win/IE, 3 comments show but the second comment seems
to be missing the information after the "XSL:" header.

When I was messing around with this I discovered an interesting
Opera-specific CSS tag which could be of help here:

white-space: -pre-wrap;

(yes the - at the beginning is right).

The result is the same as white-space: pre;, except that it wraps long
lines. Not ideal for copying and pasting, but perhaps an acceptable
workaround?

Some more info:

http://www.opera.com/docs/specs/opera5/
In addition Opera accepts a non-standard value for the CSS2 white-space
property, namely white-space: -pre-wrap. This value is exactly like
white-space: pre with the exception that lines will wrap if wider than wider
than the containing box. This is particularily handy for plaintext formats
with unpredictable position of line break characters, like email messages.
Unlike the other white-space settings hoawever, -pre-wrap will display tab
characters like small boxes.

Seems like it's supported from Opera 4+:

http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/css/supportkey/text.htm

I had some success using the following rules:

.codeblock {
  width: 350px;
  padding: 20px 10px;
  border: 1px solid #000;
  background: #9AA486;
  white-space: -pre-wrap;
  overflow: auto;
}

Good luck,

Simon

the second comment was fux0r3d last night when i checked it, so i
stuffed into
 and encoded the < and > characters... IOW, i
fixed it up better than it was...

there was no content under the XSL header, just lots of tabs... i
assumed it somehow got parsed/eaten by the CMS, finished my
ice cream sandwich, and went to bed...

dunno 'bout the other problems, but hope that helps some...

I vote for Jeff.

I un-nominate myself. I'd like to kick off with some time representing the

Maybe another time.

Hi all,

Out of curiosity, what with syndication (RDF/RSS etc) being all the talk at
the moment (more and more so each day, I gather), does evolt.org have an RSS
feed of its latest articles? I managed to find this:
    http://lists.evolt.org/thesitearchive/2001-March/001032.html
which points to this:
    http://evolt.org/evolt/xml/rdf.cfm
but that throws a CF error.

Just curious as to whether there was a newer version, or anything like that.
It would be very useful, and with the plethora of aggregation portals and
tools at the moment, a great way to increase "brand awareness" (ugh. what an
awful phrase.)

Cheers,

Paul.

Actually, try this link:

which you can get from:

Hopefully that one works better.

The problem is not with the list configuration, it is with the list
information page. This page is a customized version of the mailman
pages and does not include the 'list members' feature. Someone will
need to tune the HTML.

That is a fabulous idea!

I don't know if it exists or anything, but I do think it's a great idea. I
don't know much about how to produce XML or RSS feeds, but if it needs to be
done, I'd be happy to help out someone who knows a bit more than I do.

dean's pretty busy on sysadmin and probably going to be filling a
representative role there if time allows.

how about more of a design-oriented member?

Since this is becoming (has become?) a closed list, can we convert
the interface to the same (non-customized, I guess) version that's
used for the other group lists (e.g.,
http://lists.evolt.org/mailman/listinfo/content )?

How does one tune the HTML? I've never had/used FTP access to
anything, and if it's in the database I wouldn't know the first
thing...

I'd be happy to try, though, with some pointers.

We also need to remove reference to TheSite from this page:
http://lists.evolt.org/

Thanks,
Marlene

i *just* got done adding the piece to the listinfo page that allows you to
query the list of members if you are a member of thesite list. lemme know
if that works better for ya.

Yup, thanks, just peachy.

Wow. We've got 139 members here (including all hidden and nomail).

Because, according to the discussion on TheForum, this is now a
closed list. Not just anyone can subscribe any more*, right Dean?

Thanks,
Marlene

* (this is in an attempt to stem the number of members to just those
who will actively participate ... a rather laughable pursuit at least
regarding this list, in light of how many members we already have
here)

so it's a closed list. we don't need to pull the reference from the address
above to keep it that way. i'd like to at least make it easy for people to
find this list and then handle the subscription requests as they come in.

i think we should do the same with the other lists, btw.

agreed.

i'm inclined to unsubscribe any addresses that haven't posted to this list
in the last 6 months.

dean, any chance you can get me that list of subscribed addresses that have
posted to this list in the last 6 months or so?

Not quickly. The approach that I would take is to harvest e-mail
addresss out of the archives for the last 6 months and cross reference
that with the subscribed list. If anyone wants to take a crack at it,
let me know. Right now, it wouldn't be a priority to me.

besides asking if one can help, what other criteria will there be/is
there now to actually be *able* to help?

what remedial (tips classification, code clean up, etc.) tasks (if any)
are there that need to be done? is there a list somewhere, or something
like that, that i can see so that i can volunteer for something?

Michele had a short list at:

   http://lists.evolt.org/thesitearchive/2002-April/005245.html

April had a lot of threads on volunteering.

One of the things that I saw shoot through here was the re-design
project. I haven't been following its progress at all so I don't know
the status.

Excellent. Thanks Dean, that works a treat.

Maybe it's worth adding to the to-do list to include some more metadata for
each article... like the author? Just a thought.

Great job though, I knew it would be somewhere. Maybe, if it's not too much
work, the old link should do a redirect to the new, in case people find the
old link in the archives somewhere like I do?

Thanks for the help!

Perhaps adding an "Add to Sidebar" (or whatever) button to the WEO frontpage
would be an idea? Could be useful for NS/Moz and Opera users.

Steering Committee will probably want to meet before then. What do we
do in that case? Do we need a "sub-rep" or does our other Rep counts
as two people in the meantime? I think the latter would be fine.

Cheers,

Subject: [thesite] FAQ articles on home page?
Message-ID:

Oops, sorry, this should have gone to thesite. Please ignore the one
that went to SysAdmin. Too many groups to remember!

Hey Development folks,

I was wondering why FAQ articles, or my donate one in particular,
aren't showing up on the evolt.org home page. Is this usual?

Can we get my article on the home page? We won't get many donations
with it appearing silently under FAQ alone.

Also, Hugh gave me the code for adding a PayPal button on any page
(thanks Hugh!), and I was wondering if we could put it in the side
bar? Maybe above the "Logged in as..." info?

Here's the code:

Thanks, Marlene From jeff at members.evolt.org Sun Jun 9 19:08:03 2002 From: jeff at members.evolt.org (.jeff) Date: Sun Jun 9 19:08:03 2002 Subject: [thesite] FAQ articles on home page? Grand. Maybe the text message around the image should say: "Please give to help support evolt.org" or some such. Donate is actually not the best word (it's just what was already in the PayPal image). "Give" and "support" are preferred. Perhaps we *shouldn't* link to PayPal from your image. We should probably link to my article instead, so people know there are various ways to help. Sorry to change now. Like Hugh, I seem to have too much I'm keeping up with at the moment (and I need to get focused back on work tomorrow!). Thanks Isaac. Marlene P.S. Maybe a compromise lies in a smaller graphic with a little descriptive "sales" text. When you type in my name--Marlene Bruce--I think you'll see what I mean. Maybe it's not exactly broken (searching "marlene" works), but it doesn't return a result on first and last name combinations. That's something different then. I haven't looked at the code but I would guess that it is searching the database fields firstname, lastname, and username for the given search phrase. You're asking for a combination of two fields and I don't think that it will do that. The page reads: "You may search for users by first name, last name, or username" individually but not a combination of those. :) So I'm not sure that's a bug. Perhaps a scope change. The code would need to search the concatenation firstname and lastname fields for your string as well.
