Well, I suppose it could be. The designer presented me with PDFs and we 
just wrote what seemed to be to be appropriate HTML and CSS. Actually 
maybe someone else did the initial CSS layout, so maybe it is Blue Robot.

That's what I thought.

Sounds to me like you are one of those web developer types who knows his 
browser all too well. I have my doubts as to how many laymen will 
experience such issues.

Does anyone else perceive this CSS as problematic:

p {font-size: .9em;}

Seems to me (in my innocence) to be fairly normal and inoccuous.

I don't think so. At least not on my machine. The problem is the Hebrew 
  characters--in UTF8 they don't show up as Hebrew.

Well now how do you like that? I actually HAVE a Knoppix CD. I just have 
been stuck in a Win IE6-only site for so long that my cross-browser 
cross-platform testing skills are rusty. I must dig out that CD. :)
