[Javascript] visibility - IE & NN

So, I've been tasked with taking an existing form and "hiding" fields 
depending upon a user's actions. But, I've heard that there are issues with 
this with regards to NN 4.x. Can anyone give me (quickly) the skinny on 
this? My O'Reilly ref doesn't really touch on it at all. Does anyone have a 
crossbrowser implementation in place that I could look at?
