I don't think we gain anything by going with Gmane - we already have a 
NNTP mirror that anybody who wants can make a nice web interface for. 
Its on my list of projects, as a matter of fact.  Evolt doesn't promote 
it or mention the newsgroup mirror as far as I know, but there is no 
reason we couldn't.  It's not going anywhere - I'm more than happy to 
keep hosting it, especially since that's how I read the list ;)
