What's your hardware? This sounds more like a hardware problem than Redhat.

One thing to try immediately:
Check your hard disk and CD jumper settings. If you find they're using 
Cable Select (CSEL), change them so they use the proper master and slave 
settings. Redhat 7.2 has a slight issue with DMA and CSEL conflict. 
(Technically, CSEL is useless. And defunct. Dell use it for machine 
pre-builds because they're too lazy to actually work out which drives are 
going to be master and slaves.)
