The first thing to make sure of is that each machine has the right basic
network settings.
The RH box should have 2 ip addresses. One "real" address will be supplied
by the ISP. This address needs to be bound to the ISDN card. To make sure
that this works, log onto the RH box and make sure that you can ping things
in the outside world, like www.evolt.org
If you can't ping something from the RH box, then you external settings are
messed up and you need to start there.
If you can ping the outside world, then you need to make sure that the
internal network settings are correct. Most people use the range
192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254 for their internal networks. You need to pick
an address in that range to be your "gateway" and bind that to the RH box's
ethernet card. Most people use either the .1 address or the .254
address. Most people will use 255.255.255.0 as their netmask.
Moving over to the Win box, the ethernet card should be using an address in
the internal range (like 192.168.0.2) with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 and a
gateway value set to whatever internal address you assigned to the RH
ethernet card (192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254). One of the most common
mistakes is to set the Win boxes address to the external ip address of the
RH box (the "real" ip address). This won't work and will cause a lot of
frustration.
This setup should work. If it doesn't, then you are probably dealing with
configuration issues inside the firewall software. At least you'll have
narrowed down where the problem is.
Hope this helps,
Judah
