If you have an old one and are already dangerous, I'd suggest Beginning 
PHP 5 and MySQL, by W. Jason Gilmore. It's less project oriented than 
the Welling/Thomson and so more useful as a reference, but it still is 
very practical and contains lots of sample code. I use both, but the 
Gilmore book more often.
