Be very careful with the "guerilla tactics" it could get the site banned
from a lot of places, and worse end up in a lawsuit.

Creating a portal/community/destination website does not happen overnight.
 Look at the etoys of the (ex) world. You can spend millions of dollars and
still lack valuable users.

The established players have been in the offline field for years, slowly
growing and cultivating their business.  They have figured out what the end
users want and are expert at delivering this. E-trade is a lone player that
will likely be purchased by some other firm.

Find a niche and build from there.
