the most important thing to look for when choosing someone to help improve your
rankings in search engines (Google) is their track record. Look how well they
have achieved rankings for competitive terms. I still find companies that
claim they have a special relationship with Google, and that they know of
updates and algorithm changes before they happen.

Beware of companies that promise the sky, and self proclaim special knowledge.

Regarding SEO consultants... Does anyone have any 1st hand/personal
knowledge of an SEO consultant that they've used and can vouch for. In other
words do you have any insight or working relationship with one that you can
provide a reference for.
